Bakkie rolls deadly toddler near Mooirivier

A two-year-old child was killed and many passengers were injured when a pickup truck carrying nine passengers rolled over the N3 near Mooirivier on Sunday.

Midlands EMS arrived on the scene just before Mooi River and found multiple people with injuries, some moderate, others critical.

Midlands EMS spokesman Roland Roberston reported that a 2-year-old child suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said all patients were treated on the spot before being transported to various hospitals for further care.

Robertson said it was unclear what caused the vehicle to roll, as there were no flat tires and no other cars on the road at the time of the incident.

He said people were thrown from the open back when the vehicle overturned.
