Water main burst causes 12-foot-deep sinkhole near Denver

A 12-foot sinkhole near Denver was caused by a water main break, the Arapahoe Sheriff’s Office said. Denver Water is now working to repair the line, but officials are telling residents and motorists the work could take hours.

The rupture sends water shooting about 15 feet into the air in a residential area in the 4300 block of East Hinsdale Place, near South Colorado Boulevard and East Dry Creek Road.

The intersection of East Hinsdale Place and South Clermont Drive is closed while crews repair the burst pipe.

According to officials, local residents may be left without running water during the work.
