Former Duke basketball teammates to reunite next season

Grayson Allen led the NBA in 3-point percentage last season. Tyus Jones extended his league-leading streak in assist-to-turnover ratio to six years. And Mason Plumlee is the oldest Duke basketball prospect still in the league.

Now, all three NBA Blue Devils plan to play for the Phoenix Suns from 2024-2025.

Phoenix brought in the 28-year-old Allen as a regular backcourt starter in his first season with the franchise. He responded with career-best averages of 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while also posting a blistering 46.1 shooting percentage from behind the three-point line.

A few weeks ago, the Suns bolstered their frontcourt position by signing the 34-year-old Plumlee, a veteran NBA player with 786 regular season games to his credit, to a one-year contract.

And on Saturday, after hours of chatter among NBA insiders on social media, Phoenix landed the 28-year-old Jones, the Washington Wizards’ full-time starting point guard last season and one of the top remaining unsigned free agents entering this weekend. The former Duke basketball player, a freshman alongside Grayson Allen on the 2014-15 national champions, agreed to a one-year deal.

While it’s not new for three Blue Devils to play for the same NBA team, Tyus Jones, Mason Plumlee and Grayson Allen are the only three players playing on such a team next season for now.
