Eclectic and cool SoMa (South Main) began as an accidental neighborhood after a major freeway was built through the middle of Little Rock’s Main Street. It’s not a huge area, but you’ll find tons of charm in these few blocks. Start at ESSE, one of only three purse museums in the world. This fascinating little venue is the very definition of a hidden gem — small, sparkling, and full of wonder!

Plan to spend some time in The Heights, another Little Rock neighborhood known for charming local shops and a variety of delicious dining options. Trendy and charming, the area is full of high-end boutiques, such as Eggshells Kitchen Co. (a kitchen store for foodies), Bella Boutique (an upscale gift shop), and WordsWorth Books (a local, independent bookstore).

Explore the Cuisine

Little Rock’s food scene stands out among Southern cities by offering unique local specialties and diverse cuisine, often with a farm-to-table focus. Visitors can find everything from traditional Southern fare to international cuisines like Indian and Japanese.

Lunch will most likely depend on where you find yourself, so we have suggestions based on the neighborhoods you may explore. In SoMa, treat yourself to BCW (Bread Cheese Wine). This open, airy, and welcoming restaurant focuses on the ultimate comfort food: grilled cheese sandwiches.

No worries if you are in the mood for a fresh, tasty salad or a yummy shareable — that’s on the menu, too. Pair it with a glass (or two) of wine or a refreshing cocktail.

When evening rolls around, wind down with dinner at Park Grill, perfect after spending the afternoon at AMFA. The food is delightful, and the service is impeccable. If you’d rather head back to home base, the Capital Bar & Grill at The Capital Hotel offers comfort food at its finest — and deservedly popular cocktails for before or after-dinner fun.

In SoMa, check out the farm-to-table menu at The Root Cafe (open for lunch and dinner, too). Newly opened in the Heights, George’s serves up classic Italian flair with a local twist and paired with a signature selection of cocktails. Plus, a speakeasy named Barnaby is tucked around back. Explore History

The Clinton Presidential Center is a highlight of any visit to Little Rock. Guests can view exhibits, interactive stations, educational programs, and replicas of the Cabinet Room and Oval Office, where you can sit behind the desk and have your photo taken! Little Rock Central High School is now a National Historic Site. Established in 1998, the site interprets the heroic story of the Little Rock Nine, the struggle in Little Rock to maintain segregation, and the surging tide of the civil rights movement. Today, the iconic destination welcomes over 150,000 visitors a year, so plan ahead and reserve a tour.

Explore the Outdoors

Last but not least, head outdoors … that is, if you have the energy after eating, shopping, and enjoying art and history! Little Rock offers natural beauty everywhere you look.

Just west of the city, Pinnacle Mountain State Park has a variety of outdoor adventures on the Big and Little Maumelle Rivers, in the Arkansas Arboretum, and along over 22 miles of trails, including over 14 miles of challenging mountain bike trails. If you’re ambitious — and in shape — hike to the top of Pinnacle Mountain, where beautiful views of Lake Maumelle, the Arkansas River Valley, and the Ouachita Mountains await.

The Big Dam Bridge is North America’s longest specialty-built bicycle and pedestrian bridge. At 90 feet above the scenic Arkansas River, it connects over 14 miles of riverside trails, providing access to the Clinton Presidential Center, the River Market, museums, restaurants, and much more. It’s a great way to explore the city!
