Neighbors near Boise ordered to evacuate after explosives found in home, suspect arrested

Residents of a Kuna neighborhood were urged to evacuate after possible explosives were found in a nearby home earlier this week. Police arrested the man they believe was responsible after finding him at a campsite Saturday night.

Kuna police responded Wednesday evening to a “report of suspicious circumstances” at a home near East 4th Street and Orchard Avenue in Kuna, according to a news release from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

“During their investigation, possible explosives and numerous suspicious chemicals were found in the garage,” the press release said.

After the Boise Police Department’s bomb squad arrived and confirmed the explosives were “explosive in nature,” nearby residents were “encouraged to evacuate,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to the press release, the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Idaho National Guard’s 101st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team quickly arrived to assist in removing and destroying the potentially dangerous items.

After assessing the situation, police reported that “preliminary information indicated that there was no massive destruction of public safety.”

Police arrested Tyson Jardine, 37, of Kuna, in connection with the incident Saturday night and booked him into the Elmore County Jail on five counts of unlawful possession of an explosive. The sheriff’s office said he could face additional charges as they continue the investigation.

At the time of his arrest, family and friends had not seen him for about two weeks, the news release said. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office said they found him at a campsite near the Pine Campground in Elmore County.

Jardine, who was armed with a handgun, attempted to flee in his vehicle, striking both a Meridian police station and an Ada County armored vehicle, the release said.

Police plan to transfer him to the Ada County Jail after he appears in court.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
