Ryan Melton was the 2022 Democratic nominee in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. The Iowa Democratic Party’s State Central Committee will elect new leaders on Jan. 28.

There has been much debate since the election about the future of the Iowa Democratic Party. I believe we need to be more fervent and relentless in our advocacy for the people, and make sure we don’t sacrifice that primary focus in the pursuit of corporate money, political calculations, or false, monolithic assumptions about the state’s voters.

We have to be real. We have to be sincere. We as Democrats really do have the platform that stands up for the people. We have the platform that focuses on advancing the greater good. But too often, our leaders don’t fully embrace the potential of the platform, to our detriment.

That is why I am writing to you to endorse Brian McLain for vice chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party.
