Men Steal Nearly $20,000 in Cash and Merchandise from Evans Walmart

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of nearly $20,000 that occurred last week at the Evans Walmart on Washington Road.

On Thursday, officers responded to Walmart after an employee checked the registers and discovered the register was $9,000 short, according to an incident report.

The employee said she reviewed surveillance footage and saw three men at the cash register between 5:45 and 6 p.m., the report said. The men selected multiple electronic items and while attempting to pay with cash, distracted the cashier and pocketed the money.

According to the report, officers noted the theft occurred in three transactions, with the store losing $9,000 in cash and more than $10,600 worth of electronics.
