Phoenix secure final NBL25 import

The South East Melbourne Phoenix have signed former NBA forward Matthew Hurttheir third and final import for NBL25.

The 24-year-old graduated from Duke University in 2021 where he earned First-Team All-ACC honors in his last year. He then signed with the Memphis Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, Memphis Hustle where he averaged over 20 points in his most recent appearance.

Hurt has also appeared in the most recent USA’s Men’s AmeriCup Qualifiers, and represented USA at the FIBA ​​Americas U18 Championships in 2018, winning a Gold Medal.

Hurt will join 2023 Finals MVP, Derrick Walton Jrand former NBA small forward, Joe Wieskampas South East Melbourne’s NBL25 import trio.

“Matt is an elite shooter that commands defenders respect on the perimeter. A stretch big who can space the floor and create opportunities for our guards to go to work,” Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations and former head coach, Simon Mitchell said.

“Matt is not only a deadly shooter beyond the arc, but he can work the paint with his touch and scoring nous, makes good reads out of pick and rolls and brings more length to the frontline.”

The Phoenix have one local spot remaining.
