Powerful earthquake shakes California, impact felt as far away as Los Angeles

Sacramento, July 30 (Udaipur Kiran) – A powerful earthquake struck California on Monday, with tremors felt as far away as Los Angeles. The quake had a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter near Barstow.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quakes began around 1:00 p.m. local time. The center of the quake was five miles below the Earth’s surface. The impact of the quake was felt not only in San Bernardino County, but also in Los Angeles, Kern, Riverside and Orange Counties. The magnitude of the quake in these areas was measured between 3.5 and 2.7 on the Richter scale.
