Wet Monday and warming Tuesday

Update from Monday evening:

We had some severe storms and flooding today! Several locations received 5 inches of rain. Fortunately, there were no reports of storm damage. It was a much cooler day, with a high of only 84 degrees in Augusta. This is the coolest day we have had in over a month! Tonight and tomorrow morning will be dry with lows in the low 70s and clouds.

Tomorrow afternoon and evening are tricky. There is a possibility of a complex of thunderstorms developing, and any storm could easily become strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has all CSRA under a marginal risk. There is also still a marginal risk of flooding. The main story is the heat, and that is much more certain! Highs tomorrow will be about 10 degrees warmer than today, and the heat index could reach 105.

The weather is only going to get warmer over the next few days, with temperatures approaching 100 for the first two days of August, and the heat index climbing to around 110. Rain chances will drop for a while, and then scattered storms will return over the weekend. Next week we could see some rain from a tropical system. Read more about it on our Hurricane Tracker tab!
