These are the four best athletes in Springfield area history according to voters

Here you see the Mount Rushmore sports venue in Springfield, chosen by voters.

Voters could choose up to four candidates from more than 40 athletes, with the poll yielding more than 3,000 choices. The poll closed Monday at 8 p.m. ET. Click this link to read more about each nominee.

These are the four winners:

André Iguodala

The 2002 Lanphier graduate garnered the most votes with 617. He played 19 seasons in the NBA, won four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors and was named the 2015 NBA Finals MVP. The ninth overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft out of Arizona was one of the best defenders of his generation and helped Team USA win gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Kelsey Card

The 2011 Carlinville graduate received the second-most votes with 411. She competed in the 2016 and 2021 Olympics in the women’s discus, finishing as high as 25th. She became the first Wisconsin athlete to win a national title in a field event.

Jayson Werth

The 1997 Glenwood graduate finished third with 344. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles and played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Blue Jays, Dodgers, Phillies and Nationals. He finished eighth in the MVP voting in 2010, his final season in Philadelphia. He batted .267 in a career high with 229 homers, 799 RBIs and helped Philly win the 2008 World Series.

Baby Ridley

The 1996 Carlinville graduate finished fourth with 287. He led the Cavaliers to a boys track and field team title with four individual victories in the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. His long jump record of 24 feet, 2 inches still stands as the state record in 1A. He also shone at Illinois and was a three-time NCAA All-American with Big Ten titles in the outdoor 4×100 relay, indoor 4×400 relay and indoor 60-meter dash.
