Polling stations open at 6 a.m. on primary day

July 29:
The Department of Justice announces that it will monitor Maricopa County’s compliance with federal voting laws for the July 30 primary election:

“The Department of Justice enforces federal voting rights laws that protect the right of all citizens to have access to the ballot. The Department regularly deploys its personnel to monitor compliance with federal civil rights laws in elections in communities across the country. In addition, the Department also deploys federal monitors from the Office of Personnel Management when authorized by a federal court order.

“The Voting Division of the Civil Rights Division, in cooperation with the U.S. Attorney’s Offices, enforces the civil rights provisions of federal laws that protect the right to vote, including the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, the Civil Rights Act, and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.”
