Sailing’s Montgomery ready for Summer Olympics

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts. – Harvard Sailing’s Sophia Montgomery will make her Olympic Games debut on Thursday, August 1 in Paris, France, when she competes in the women’s dinghy for Thailand.

Montgomery, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, will hit the water on August 1 at 9:35 a.m. ET, with two races scheduled for each of the first five days. The event will culminate in the medal race on August 6 at 8:43 a.m. ET. Peacock will report live from Marseille Marina all six days.

Montgomery is the first Harvard sailor to qualify for the Summer Olympics since Julia Trotman ’88 in 1992, and will be the 17the participant who represented the Crimson at the Games.

Montgomery, a rising junior, qualified for the Paris Olympics after finishing fourth in the ILCA 6 class at the Asian Sailing Championship in Pattaya, Thailand, in December. In Montgomery’s first two seasons at Harvard, she placed second at the 2021 NEISA Women’s Singlehanded Championship and fourth at the 2021 ICSA Women’s Singlehanded National Championship before winning the 2022 ICSA event.
