Fatal crash involving stolen car: 15-year-old passenger killed, 3 others injured

A 15-year-old was killed and several others were injured in a fatal crash involving a stolen car in Springfield Township Monday morning, authorities said.

According to Springfield Township police, the collision occurred at 4:51 a.m. at the intersection of Stenton and E. Evergreen avenues, when a 2020 Hyundai Elantra ran a red light and struck a 2014 Infiniti QX80.

A teenage passenger was thrown from a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers were extricated and taken to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital. A passenger from the second vehicle was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital.

Police said the Hyundai was reported stolen in Philadelphia on July 27.

Multiple agencies responded, including fire and EMS crews from Wyndmoor, Ambler and surrounding townships. The Montgomery County coroner’s office also assisted.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Witnesses are asked to contact the Springfield Township Police Department at 215-836-1601.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or provided information on the condition of the injured passengers.
