PARIS > Simone Biles won her fifth Olympic gold medal today, making a triumphant return to the women’s gymnastics team final at the Paris Olympics, cementing her status as one of the world’s best athletes just three years after she withdrew from the same event at the Tokyo Games.

Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time, earned the United States its 11th Olympic medal in the women’s team event with a solid performance on all four apparatus, starting with the vault, then soaring high into the air to execute the Cheng for 14.900 points.

With the French team failing to qualify for the final, Biles and her teammates received massive support from the crowd, with the United States finishing with an impressive 5,802 points ahead of second-placed Italy.

While the Italians won their first women’s team medal at the 1928 Olympics, an incredible jump from Rebeca Andrade gave Brazil bronze. It was their first ever medal in the discipline.
