TV shows and movies based on books that you can watch at home for Book Lovers Day

With Book Lovers Day falling on Friday, August 9, ABC News has compiled a list of TV shows and movies you can watch at home that are based on books.

First in line is the two-time Emmy nominee The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Based on the novel of the same name by Heather Morris, it tells the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Jewish prisoner who was tasked with tattooing identification numbers on the arms of prisoners at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II.

A Good Guide to Murder for Girls

Pip Fitz-Amobi is unsure whether schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by her lover Sal Singh five years ago. If it turns out Sal isn’t the killer, how far will people go to stop Pip from discovering the truth?

Bridgeton

This writer is a huge fan of Bridgerton, the Shondaland-produced historical romance series based on the books by Julia Quinn.

All the light we can’t see

Based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Doerr, All the Light We Cannot See is a four-part miniseries that follows the stories of blind French girl Marie-Laure and German soldier Werner, whose paths cross in occupied France during World War II.

Chemistry lessons

This brilliant series is based on a book by Bonnie Garmus.

In the 1950s, Elizabeth Zott’s dream of becoming a scientist is challenged by a society that believes women belong in the home. She accepts a job on a TV cooking show and decides to teach a nation of housewives much more than recipes.

Interview with the vampire

Based on Anne Rice’s iconic novel, Interview with the Vampire follows Louis de Pointe’s epic tale of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy.

Plum

Based on Brendan Cowell’s novel of the same name, Plum follows Peter “The Plum” Lum (Brendan Cowell), a 49-year-old national football legend who lives with his son Gavin (Vincent Miller) and girlfriend Charmaine (María Dupláa) in Cronulla. It seems Plum is living the dream until he discovers he has a brain condition as a result of hundreds of head knocks and concussions he’s sustained on the pitch. Plum also stars Asher Keddie.

Fake

Inspired by Stephanie Wood’s memoir of the same name, author Birdie Bell (Asher Keddie) meets successful rancher Joe Burt (David Wenham) on a dating app and thinks she’s found her perfect match. But as their relationship intensifies, she begins to realize that her boyfriend isn’t what he’s led her to believe.

Fifty Shades of Grey

The novel of the same name sold a ridiculous number of copies. After reading it, I don’t understand why.

The lead roles are played by Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.

Ana, a college student, interviews an enigmatic billionaire entrepreneur, Christian, for her campus magazine. A steamy sadomasochistic affair ensues between the two, whose roots lie in his past.

The last birthday

Based on Australian author Liane Moriarty’s best-selling novel of the same name, The Last Anniversary is set on Scribbly Gum Island, a place with many secrets. The secret that made the island famous – the disappearance of a young couple decades ago – may have made it a destination for true crime tourists, but when it comes to secrets, the three generations of women who call Scribbly Gum home have a lot more to offer.
