Parents of 3 students killed in Parkland massacre, survivor reach major settlement with shooter

Families of three students killed in the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland and an injured former student have reached multimillion-dollar settlements in a lawsuit against the shooter, though their attorney admits it’s highly unlikely they’ll ever receive much money. The parents of slain students Luke Hoyer, 15, Alaina Petty, 14, and Meadow Pollack, 18, each reached a $50 million settlement with Nikolas Cruz, while injured student Maddy Wilford agreed to a $40 million settlement, according to recently filed court records. “The primary reason for the amounts of the judgments is simply so that in the event that the killer ever comes into possession of money, we can enforce the judgments and obtain it, leaving him with no way to buy any comforts,” their attorney, David Brill, said Thursday.
