Legal group calls for criminal investigation into Clooneys

An Israeli NGO, Shurat HaDin, is urging US Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Amal Clooney over her involvement with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant in connection with the Gaza conflict.

The group alleges that Clooney, who participated in the ICC’s advisory forum, violated the American Servicemembers’ Protection Act by conducting investigative actions against Israeli officials while on U.S. soil.

They argue that US law prohibits ICC agents from operating in the country in such a manner.

If found guilty, Clooney could face felony charges.

“US law is exceptionally clear: no ICC agent may operate or assist in ICC investigative actions against Americans or their allies while in the US,” said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, president of Shurat HaDin.

“As President Biden has said, it is outrageous that this biased court in The Hague would attempt to prosecute Israeli officials while they are in Gaza fighting the murderers, rapists and terrorist gangs of Hamas,” Darshan-Leitner said.

“If Amal Clooney participated in the ICC panel investigating Prime Minister Netanyahu while living in the US, then she is the one who should be prosecuted. She seems passionate about international law, but rather disdainful of US regulations.”

“George Clooney’s efforts to intervene and meddle in White House policy on behalf of his wife, while simultaneously raising money for Biden’s campaign, are disturbing and suspicious,” she added.

The organization criticized her for allegedly trying to incriminate Israeli leaders and raised concerns about her husband George Clooney’s involvement in political fundraising for Biden’s campaign, suggesting a potential conflict of interest.
