A Guide to All of Taylor Sheridan’s Latest and Upcoming ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoffs, Sequels, and Other Projects – DNyuz

There’s no doubt that Taylor Sheridan is one of Paramount’s star writers.

Since turning away from acting, Sheridan has become one of Hollywood’s most prolific screenwriters, redefining the western genre with his hit series “Yellowstone.”

He is so prolific that Paramount spends more than $500 million a year on his shows, The Wall Street Journal reported.

And that number could increase as his slate of “Yellowstone” spinoffs and other shows grows.

While “Yellowstone” may end this year, following the success of “1883” and “1923,” Sheridan will continue to expand the franchise with several other prequels, sequels and spinoffs.

Here’s everything we know about all the Sheridan-led projects currently in development.

1.’Yellowstone’

The series that started it all is currently in its fifth season.

The neo-Western series revolves around the Duttons, an American ranching family, and continues to attract more viewers every season.

When the series first launched, Sheridan, who co-created the series with John Linson, took on the roles of writer and director.

But since then he has loosened the reins a bit and brought in other directors.

After delays due to strikes at the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, and a standoff with star Kevin Costner over his filming schedule, the second half of season five is scheduled to air on November 10, 2024.

2. ‘The Madison’

While announcing last year that the flagship series would be ending, Paramount bosses promised “expansions of this incredible world” that Sheridan had built.

In February of this year, Puck reported that Matthew McConaughy and Michelle Pfieffer were in negotiations to lead the cast of a modern-day sequel titled “2024.”

A few months later, it was officially announced that Pfieffer would star and produce the new series. The series was renamed “The Madison.”

Franchisor Sheridan will write the series, which will follow a New York City family living in the Madison River Valley in central Montana.

According to Paramount Network, the series is “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection.”

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said of Pfieffer’s casting: “She is the perfect anchor for the newest chapter of the ‘Yellowstone’ universe, ‘The Madison,’ from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.”

There’s no news yet about what McConaughey’s future is in the “Yellowstone” world.

3. ‘1923’

“1923” focuses on the second and third generations of the Dutton family in the early 20th century. It was originally set to be a limited series, but a surprise announcement of a second season came shortly after its 2023 premiere.

The series, called the “Yellowstone” origin story, stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

The series was set to begin production on its second season in June 2023, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed filming until mid-2024.

“Dexter” stars Jennifer Carpenter, Augustus Prew and Janet Montgomery are among the new faces joining the cast for season two.

4. ‘1944’

“1944” is another “Yellowstone” spin-off series that Sheridan has greenlit from Paramount. It’s also the series we know the least about.

It is expected that, like the previous prequels “1883” and “1923”, it will be set in the title year and will focus on the difficulties the Duttons faced during the war.

5. ‘6666’

First announced in early 2021 and originally scheduled to debut in 2023, this highly anticipated expansion of the “Yellowstone” franchise was set to revolve around the history of a Texas ranch that Sheridan now owns.

The show’s future, however, remains uncertain. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Sheridan explained the delays in getting “6666” (pronounced “four-sixes”) off the ground.

“That requires a unique level of special care for a number of reasons, because this is a real place with real families that work here. You have to respect the lineage,” he said. “I told (the studio) to be patient.”

6. ‘Farmer’

Based on the podcast “Boomtown,” the series is billed as a “modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs” set in Texas, according to a synopsis from Paramount+.

The show stars Demi Moore and Billy Bob Thornton and is described as “an upstairs/downstairs tale of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires who fuel economic growth so big it changes our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.”

Sheridan co-created the series with Christian Wallace and serves as executive producer. Beginning in February 2024, the series will film in and around Fort Worth, Texas.

The series will premiere on November 17, 2024.

7. ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’

The first season of the series, which Sheridan executive produced, told the story of legendary sheriff Bass Reeves, one of the first black American sheriffs west of the Mississippi.

According to lead actor David Oyelowo, who also served as an executive producer, the series was intended as an anthology series, with each season focusing on “different law enforcement officers from history whose stories should be told.”

“Lawmen” has not yet been renewed for a second season, but the success of its first season is an encouraging sign that it will happen; the show’s first two episodes drew more than 7.5 million viewers, Deadline reported, setting a record for Paramount+’s most-watched series premiere of 2023.

8. ‘Special Ops: Lioness’

The first season of the espionage thriller “Special Ops: Lioness,” which Sheridan created and executive produced, is set to premiere in summer 2023.

The first season was inspired by a real American military program that focused on tackling terrorist organizations from within. The lead roles were played by Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman.

“We can’t wait to see more of the breathtaking excitement and action that Taylor Sheridan and the incredibly talented team are delivering in season two,” said Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President, Programming, Paramount+ in May 2024, when announcing the show’s renewal.

9. ‘Tulsa King’

“Tulsa King,” which marked Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a scripted television series, is set to premiere in late 2022.

The series focuses on an aging mobster after he is released from a 25-year prison sentence and sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma to start a new criminal organization. Sheridan created and executive produced the series.

Shortly after the series began airing, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a second season, Variety reported.

10. ‘Mayor of Kingstown’

“Mayor of Kingstown” was the first series Sheridan created as part of his deal with Paramount.

Starring Jeremy Renner, the series is set in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan and follows the powerful McLusky family as they attempt to bring justice and order to a community plagued by corruption.

It has been confirmed that the series will return for a third season.

11. “Empire of the Summer Moon”

As if Sheridan’s existing commitments weren’t enough, in January 2024 it was announced that he and his production company Bosque Ranch had acquired the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History, by S.C. Gwynne.

According to Deadline, Sheridan will produce the project alongside Jenny Wood.

The book tells the story of Quanah Parker, a chief of the Comanche Indian tribe, and the tribe’s forty-year struggle against white settlers for control of the American West.
