The Juba County Commissioner has warned boys and girls, popularly known as “niggas”, against engaging in criminal activities and vowed to arrest them or face punitive action.

“Another is that when those blacks commit crimes, using machetes and other harmful objects, we will not abandon them, we will deal with them because they have become enemies of society,” said Emmanuel Tete.

He called on the youth to desist from such crimes and focus on their education and developing their skills.

Tete also called on parents, guardians and community leaders to advise the youth not to join gangs.

“We must stand strong against this problem of Negroes, it is a collective responsibility. Families must take care of their boys and girls must not let their children commit crimes to avoid the guilt later,”

His warning comes after Mayor Flora Gabriel issued an order to the 57 district heads to cooperate with security services, identify gang groups in their respective neighborhoods and arrest them.

Hundreds of unemployed youths are said to have formed criminal gangs in Juba and other major cities in the country, committing violence, burglaries and disrupting public peace and security.

In November 2023, the Inspector General of Police, General Atem Marol, ordered a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of hundreds of people, mainly in the capital, Juba.

In May this year, the National Police urged residents of Juba to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report suspected criminal activity through the toll-free emergency number 112.

Major General Daniel Justin made the comments in response to concerns raised in some residential areas about incidents involving unruly gangs causing unrest.
