California sheriff slams Kamala Harris over ‘misleading’ ad

A California sheriff has launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris after his image appeared in a new political ad promoting border security.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux described Harris’ campaign ad, which shows him and other law enforcement officers standing behind Harris during a press conference, as “misleading” during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday.

“I can tell you that we are ready here in California for someone who is going to support law enforcement. Kamala Harris and law enforcement in California — we know her very well and how she has done it over the years as a senator, as a prosecutor, as an attorney general. And I can tell you that this ad is misleading, to say the least,” Boudreaux said.

“I remember one particular case where we were doing a drug cartel or a drug trafficking organization where we were working with the DEA. And in this particular case, she showed up, she didn’t shake anybody’s hand and she was, she quickly left the briefing room,” he continued. “So for me in law enforcement to see my face and my image with my colleagues in law enforcement standing next to Kamala Harris was really disheartening. We do not support Kamala Harris.”

Newsweek reached out to Harris’s campaign for comment.

While the sheriff said in a statement that he does not support “any other political office,” he told Fox News that former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, best represents “someone who will support criminal justice and law enforcement” over Harris.

Boudreaux was critical of Harris’s border security record when she was California’s attorney general.

He released a statement through the political action committee he formed to support conservative candidates, Golden State Justice: “We were in the green room. She never came in and said hello to any of us. She walked up, gave her press conference, literally walked out and never said hello to any of us. I’m disgusted because, you know, she didn’t shake hands. She didn’t say hello. And she’s taken credit for all the work that the locals have done.”

“While Attorney General Kamala Harris undermined California law enforcement efforts to stop criminals from flooding our state with guns and drugs across the border,” the statement said. “She has repeatedly dismantled and shuttered task forces designed to protect our residents, leaving the Valley and our state vulnerable.

“Kamala’s sad attempt to portray herself as a tough woman on the border by suggesting I support her — and that of neighboring law enforcement — is pathetic.”

Boudreaux criticized Harris’ claim that she had spent decades as a “border state prosecutor” fighting violent crime, calling it misleading.

“A politician filling a podium at a press conference clearly hasn’t solved our border crisis,” Boudreaux said of the ad. “Neither has Kamala Harris. The fact is, ‘then-California Attorney General Kamala’ came to the Valley in 2014 with a years-long investigation into a multinational drug operation with ties to Mexican drug cartels and prison gangs.”
