FIRST IMAGES FROM THE FOURTH SERIES OF THE ITV DETECTIVE DRAMA

The critically acclaimed detective drama returns for a fourth season starring John Simm as Detective Roy Grace and is based on the bestselling books by world-renowned author Peter James.

The four feature films are all set in Brighton – alongside John Simm, they also feature returning cast members Richie Campbell as DS Glenn Branson, Zoë Tapper as Cleo Morey, Craig Parkinson as DS Norman Potting, Laura Elphinstone as DS Bella Moy, Brad Morrison as DC Nick Nicholl and Sam Hoare as ACC Cassian Pewe. The series will also feature renowned TV and theatre actor Robert Glenister.

The first film in the new series is called Dead Man’s Time. A brutal robbery at a remote Brighton house leads Grace and Branson into a puzzling investigation when thousands of pounds worth of beautiful antiques are stolen from the house.

As Grace delves deeper into this mysterious crime, he uncovers a web of age-old grudges, a web that leads him down a dark and murderous path through the world of Brighton’s antique shops. It’s a race against time to find out who is behind this heist and to give Gavin Daly the answers he’s desperately sought for years.

In episode two, Want You Dead, Grace and Branson investigate a case where nothing is really as it seems. When an unidentified victim is found dead in strange circumstances, the autopsy reveals more questions than it answers – while Grace attempts to identify the body in the hope it might provide a crucial clue to the killer’s motive, he soon has another death on his hands when a second victim turns up in Brighton city centre, discovered in similarly bizarre circumstances.

You Are Dead is episode three – seeing Grace and Branson thrown into what is possibly their most disturbing and high-profile case to date when a disturbing discovery of skeletal remains is unearthed by workmen excavating a path in Brighton city centre. Meanwhile, on the other side of the city that same morning, a victim is abducted in broad daylight – with no witnesses and no sign of who took her, Grace begins to suspect that the victim’s fiancé is lying to the police.

The final episode of the series is Love You Dead. When a notorious Brighton burglar is found dead in his car in gruesome circumstances, his wife claims he has written a new chapter in history. However, all evidence points to the victim possibly still being up to his old tricks and breaking into a house on the night he was murdered.

As Grace and the team attempt to piece together the circumstances leading to the victim’s death, Roy receives a call from an American police contact about a crime abroad that bears the hallmarks of a mafia hit – the police are keen to track down a woman they believe is from Brighton who could be in danger. As Roy scours the city in search of her, it becomes clear that he is not the only one searching for this mysterious woman.

Grace returns on Sunday 1 September on ITV1.
