Grovetown man charged with sexual exploitation of child, grooming of minor

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A man has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and luring a minor in Grovetown, authorities confirmed Thursday.

On July 23, at approximately 6:52 p.m., Columbia County deputies responded to a home on Baker Place Road to speak with a parent who wanted to report a suspicious situation.

The parent stated that an unknown suspect had sent text messages to a minor that depicted inappropriate behavior but were not criminal at the time, authorities said.

Based on details the suspect told the victim, authorities said they were able to identify him.

Authorities informed the parent that he should report any crimes, which later led to his arrest.

According to the arrest warrant issued on Aug. 13, Jason Alexander Shumaker, 45, committed multiple crimes in Grovetown on July 13, the sworn officer said.

According to the arrest warrant, these crimes include sexual exploitation of a minor (computer or electronic pornography) and luring a minor under the age of 14.

Shumaker was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual exploitation of children and luring of minors, jail records show.
