About Terre des Hommes

Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and by enabling children to make their voices heard. Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on sexual exploitation of children (SEC), child labour, child trafficking and humanitarian action. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands develops and implements projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Terre des Hommes Nederland is part of the International Federation of Terre des Hommes organizations, a strategic partnership of affiliated organizations that share the same brand name and core values for joint lobbying and advocacy around children’s rights. Terre des Hommes Nederland (TdH NL) protects children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and by empowering children. Our work is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and aims to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Under our new Global Strategy (2023 – 2030), TdH NL is redefining and refining our role as a children’s rights organisation, with the strategic ambition that “By 2030, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is a catalyst for systemic change to end child exploitation. We do this by empowering children and their communities, connecting them with those who have the power to create change, and using our knowledge and expertise to create sustainable, evidence-based solutions.”

TdH Nederland is led by a management team consisting of two people: the General Manager and the CEO.

The values of TdH Netherlands are: Responsible, Daring, People-oriented and Playful.

The core principles of the organization are: (1) Children in the Center, (2) Intersectionality and Power Consciousness, (3) Safety and Wellbeing, (4) Sustainability and (5) Meaningful and Strategic Partnerships.

In line with our new strategy, TdH NL recently set up three thematic programmes under which our portfolio of humanitarian and development projects and programmes is managed. These are: 1. Child Labour, 2. Child Sexual Exploitation and 3. Humanitarian Action. Our programmatic work is supported by two cross-programmatic units: Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) and Research, Expertise and Influence (REI). In line with our new strategy and based on years of experience as a children’s rights organisation, we aim to consolidate our expertise and programme management, informed by research, to bring about sustainable and systemic change in the lives of children and hold duty bearers to account.

TdH NL’s focus on humanitarian action is on the protection of children in emergencies (CPiE), with a specific focus on the protection of children from exploitation.
