Heavy security protects Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Colombia despite barely anyone present

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s trip to Colombia is accompanied by an incredible security presence in an attempt to Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they tour the South American seaside country.

The British Royals, who stepped down as working members of the family in 2020, are now on the third day of their visit to Shakira’s home country and attended a Caribbean drum school in Bogota before moving to Cartagena.

But what they actually do there is not as popular as the security that follows them, which consists of 3,000 police officers, anti-terrorism, anti-nuclear, anti-biological terror and an ambulance units.

They also received air support, as a Black Hawk helicopter and a drone allowed local police to keep an eye out for potential threats from the air before they arrived at the Tambores de Cabildo music school for a cultural visit.

There were also bulletproof Kevlar shields and they were protected by a Toyota Land Cruiser in the convoy, although the locals didn’t seem particularly interested. Only two women called out to the British prince.

Why is Colombia dangerous?

Colombia’s reputation because danger, especially in the area of security, has complex roots, often linked to the history of armed conflict, drug trafficking and organised crime, such as drug cartels, armed resistance and mercenaries.

It is striking that the father of Luis DiazA Colombian soccer star who plays for Liverpool FC has been kidnapped in northern Colombia by an armed group. The group reportedly wanted to demand a ransom for his release in October 2023.

Daz’s father was eventually released after a military operation. This incident underscores the ongoing security problems in Colombia, particularly in certain regions where criminal groups still exert influence.

The protection is so intensive that even the mayor of Cartagena, Dumek Turbay, was not invited to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and admitted that he wanted to watch the event on television.
