Bulgarian Consulate General in Thessaloniki informed of incident involving Bulgarian citizens in Halkidiki

Information received by the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki from the Greek police indicated that in the evening hours of August 16, a conflict broke out in a nightclub in the resort of Chaniotis (Halkidiki, Greece) between a group of seven Bulgarian citizens, the owner and the staff of the establishment, during which two people were shot and one was slightly injured. The injured were admitted to the Polygyros hospital, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Bulgarian Consulate General in Thessaloniki has been informed of the incident and has provided assistance to the relatives of the injured. The Consulate General is also in constant contact with the Greek authorities and continues to monitor the case.

CNN’s Greek section reports on a bloody confrontation in which three men were injured at a famous beach bar on the Halkidiki peninsula. The motives for the incident are unknown. Greek media reports that three Bulgarians were involved.

According to the Greek website Halkidiki Focus, the incident took place shortly before midnight on Friday at a beach bar in Chaniotis.

One man was wounded in the chest with a firearm, another was stabbed with a knife and another had injuries from an assault, thestival.gr reported, adding that all three were Bulgarian citizens. The wounded were taken to a hospital in Polygyros. The health condition of the man who was shot is assessed by doctors as “particularly serious”. Police are collecting statements from eyewitnesses to establish the circumstances of the incident. It is believed that people from the Bulgarian mafia were involved, the portal writes.
