Punjab IG instructs all regions to eliminate criminal gangs

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th August, 2024) Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has said that zero tolerance should be ensured for delays in registering FIRs, clamping down on complainants and corruption and strict action should be taken.

He expressed these views while giving instructions to officers at a meeting he chaired at the Central Police Station. He stressed that the approach to arresting category A offenders needs to be made more effective and that the number of fines and recoveries needs to be further improved.

He ordered that DNA samples in cases of abuse of women and children be sent immediately for forensic analysis. In high-profile cases, the quality of the investigation and compliance with the issued protocols must be ensured at all costs.

The IG has directed all regions to eliminate criminal gangs and resolve the pending complaints on 1787 and the CM portal within the stipulated time frame.

He praised the performance of DPOs in districts like Khushab and Bhakkar for cracking down on notorious gangs. He also praised the excellent leadership and public service of RPOs Sargodha and Faisalabad.

He discussed the achievements, problems and challenges of the six regions and their districts.

During the meeting, issues related to arrest of dangerous gangs, rehabilitation, quality of investigation and challaning were discussed. He also discussed the situation of controlling serious crimes like robbery murders, blind murders and kidnapping for ransom.

He directed the Rawalpindi region to improve its performance in investigation, redressal, prosecution and resolution of grievances of 1787. Additional IG Investigation, Additional IG Operations, Additional IG IAB, DIGs and senior officers were present in the meeting while RPOs, CPOs and DPOs of Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Sheikhupura regions participated through video link.
