Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child” Joins YouTube’s Billions Club

Swedish House Mafia‘s video for the 2012 hit “Don’t You Worry Child” has been viewed more than 1 billion times on YouTube. It is the first video to reach the billion-dollar mark for the supergroup, which consists of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso.

“Don’t You Worry Child” is a collaboration with fellow Swedish House Mafia member John Martin, whose raw vocals grace the track and who co-wrote it with fellow American Michel Zitron. The duo conceived the song during a night reminiscing about their youthful adventures, falling in love and their relationships with their fathers. “We love sad songs with big choruses and stories,” Zitron told Billboard in 2021. “And that’s what really made the EDM scene. This is a song that you can cry to on the dance floor.”

When Ingrosso heard what Martin and Zitron were working on, he was captivated by “Don’t You Worry Child” and the writers agreed to let Swedish House Mafia work their magic on it. The supergroup’s blistering production built around the song’s emotional core contributed to Swedish House Mafia’s biggest hit both domestically and internationally. In their native Sweden, “Don’t You Worry Child” became the group’s first No. 1 single. In the U.S., the song climbed into the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100, peaked at No. 1 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, and was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 2013 Grammys. It has since gone five times platinum in the U.S.

Although Swedish House Mafia has since reunited, “Don’t You Worry Now” was their last single before their 2013 split when it was released. Directed by Christian Larson, who previously directed the Swedish House Mafia documentary Take oneThe video serves as a farewell to the group. Following a clip of a TV news report announcing their breakup, Larson’s footage documents the energy and liberation inherent in the Swedish House Mafia live show, capturing both the performers and their audience in a euphoric state. The footage was collected from the group’s final UK gig at the National Bowl in Milton Keynes, where “Don’t You Worry Child” made its live debut.
