Monument Valley 3 is finally coming to Netflix in December

I’m the kind of consumer who gets completely absorbed in a band’s music and that’s the only thing I listen to, non-stop, for an extended period of time. The same goes for TV shows; there aren’t many that I really like, but the ones that do, like HBO’s epic mafia drama GomorrahI watch it over and over again. And the same goes for video games — I’m definitely not a gamer, but there have been a few here and there, like Ustwo Games’ Monument Valley franchise, which I have played so many times.

I can’t even point to a single reason why I would Monument Valley games so much. First of all, they are visually stunning. The soundtrack is an ambient, sonic wonderland. There is also a minimal but engaging storyline, in which the main character Ida goes on a quest through ethereal landscapes to atone for stealing the “sacred geometry” of the land. In Monument Valley 2another protagonist named Ro guides her young daughter through a similar fantastical world — and soon, thanks to Netflix, fans like me will have a whole new Monument Valley to dive into.

The long-awaited third game in the franchise will be available to play with a Netflix subscription, as part of the push into mobile gaming, starting on Dec 10. And, judging by the first images below, it looks like the developers have used the time since the last release to get even more creative with the gameplay – with characters now able to ride a boat to explore different towns and villages, for example.

Of course, the familiar gameplay mechanics that Monument Valley fans still know and love it. You still have to align staircases, rotate platforms in geometric patterns, and navigate incredible optical illusions. While the game was a revelation when it first debuted on iOS devices in 2014, it still looks (to me, anyway) as fresh and inventive as ever.

Often, when I played the first two games, I just wanted to stop and look at how beautiful everything is, and appreciate it as a work of art, instead of rushing through the games. And it definitely seems like I’m going to do the same with Monument Valley 3if early images from Netflix are anything to go by. There is more good news too: the first two Monument Valley games are also coming to Netflix (September 19 and October 29, respectively).
