Mafia: The Old Country is a return to the series after at least 8 years

The short teaser trailer runs for just over a minute and begins with dramatic, still-life shots of paintings and weapons. That’s before the camera cuts to what is presumably the Italian countryside. There is a chapter in Mafia 2 called The Old Country; it is set in Sicily, Italy in 1943. However, most mafia games are set in fictional versions of American cities.

2K Games said in a press release that Mafia: The Old Country is a story about “the origins of organized crime” in the 1900s. “Fight to survive in this dangerous and ruthless era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for,” wrote 2K.

The first game in the franchise, Mafiawas released in 2002 by Illusion Softworks, followed by Mafia 2 in 2010 from 2K Czech, and Mafia 3 in 2016 of Hangar 13. There have also been several expansion packs, mobile spin-offs and remastered editions. Recently Hangar 13 was released Mafia: Definitive Editiona remake of the original game set in Lost Heaven, Illinois, in the 1930s. 2K Games reported in a press release that the Mafia franchise has sold over 34 million copies across consoles and PC.

Mafia: The Old Country will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X. More information will be announced in December 2024.
