LeBron James joins America in awe as iconic blockbuster returns to save Hollywood

Does anyone else have ‘woke up this morning’ thinking of reliving the nostalgic days of a Tony Soprano-run New Jersey? Well, fans of ‘The Sopranos’ certainly did, because yesterday the trailer for ‘Smart guy’a two-part documentary that explores the behind-the-scenes of the hit television series. Featuring life details from creator David Chase himself, along with previously unseen footage and interviews with the cast, the upcoming series is a real-life story for any die-hard fan of the infamous New Jersey Mafia.

The trailer itself has piqued LeBron James’ interest, and he’s not holding back on his excitement. Earlier today, the 39-year-old took to his official Instagram account to share the trailer on his story. As if that wasn’t enough to show his love for ‘The Sopranos The NBA star also wrote a caption to his 160 million followers: “THE BIGGEST SHOW!! I can’t wait!”

Commemoration of the 25 birthday of ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Smart guy’ plans to bring back its elite cast. From actors who played members of Tony Soprano’s mob (Michael Imperioli) to the actresses who played his wife and therapist (Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco), it’s a reunion to honor creator David Chase and the show that would lay the foundation for other great shows to come (Breaking Bad, Mad Men). Sadly, the actor who played Tony Soprano himself, James Gandolfini, won’t be there, as he passed away in 2013 at the age of 51.

The Los Angeles Lakers star wasn’t the only one excited. Fans across America took to social media to share their reactions. From sharing memes to getting emotional, many were thrilled with the new Sopranos-themed material.

This may be one of the first times LeBron James has shown his love for the HBO Drama. Considering it ran from 1999-2007, the peak years of ‘The Sopranos’ also coincided with the rise of the player himself.

Ironically, while LeBron had shown no prior love for the show, two of the main cast members had done the same to the NBA star. In April 2024, sports journalist Pablo S. Torre went viral when he unearthed the footage, shot by the New York Knicks, in 2010. It was the same year that LeBron James had parted ways with the Cleveland Cavaliers and entered free agency. The previously unseen video saw cast members James Gandolfini and Edie Falco reprise their roles as Tony and Carmela Soprano, three years after the much-hyped Finals. In the ‘Witness Protection Program’The mob boss and his wife discussed finding a new home for the NBA player, and decided on Madison Square Garden! Unfortunately, LeBron ultimately preferred the coast over skyscrapers and took his talents to the Miami Heat.

LeBron James’ love for ‘The Sopranos’ seems justified. After all, the player has a close relationship with HBO and a number of its shows.

Has LeBron James ever worked with HBO?

Dominating on the basketball court isn’t the only thing LeBron James has done over the past two decades. While most people only think of ‘Space Jam 2’ when looking at the player’s work in America, he has also collaborated with HBO on several projects.

LeBron James hosted the HBO talk show for over 16 episodes ‘The shop’From Barack Obama to Sue Bird, interviews took place in barbershops across the country. Later, it was decided to move the show to YouTube.

In 2016, it was announced that the NBA star was serving as an executive producer on the HBO documentary about Muhammad Ali. Released three years later with the title ‘What’s my name: Muhammad Ali’marked the first feature film production for LeBron’s SpringHill Entertainment television network. The player would later return to HBO, in 2021, to serve as an executive producer on season 3 of ‘Serious’a podcast about investigative journalism.

Other LeBron references have been made by HBO, and vice versa. In 2014, the crew of ‘Mad Men’ made a special video in which lead character Don Draper encouraged LeBron to return to Cleveland. ‘SpaceJam 2’ contained several references to Game of Thrones, from a map of Westeros to a White Walker cheering on during a game.
