MaMkhize confesses to ‘collaboration’ with criminals (video)

Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize appears to have scored another own goal by confessing to working with the “construction mafia”, which is known for using violence and intimidation to extort money from public sector companies.

Her confession comes weeks after her name was linked to an attempted murder of a SARS lawyer assigned to a R37-million investigation into her businesses.

MaMkhize – the CEO of the Zikhulise Group – has previously been charged with alleged criminal activities including fraud, forgery, bribery and tax evasion.

MAMKHIZE ADMITS COLLABORATION WITH THE ‘CONSTRUCTION MAFIA’

MaMkhize, owner of the Zikhulise Group, which operates in the construction, cleaning, maintenance and transport sectors, admitted this week at a Women in Construction event in Durban that she “collaborated” with the criminals.

She said: “Although there are construction mafias, it is very important to work together. I have been in the industry for more than 20 years, with the construction mafia involved.

“But what I do is I sit down (with them). It’s a cry for help. You have to understand what they need and you work together. I’ve done it. I’ve built up quite a few people who come from construction mafias, which I call business forums.”

She continued: “They’ve never given me any trouble. We have to see them as enemies. We have to listen, listen to them and meet each other halfway. That’s what I’ve done.”

According to KZN Human Settlements, MEC Siboniso Duma alleged that the government is “collaborating” with the “construction mafia” who pose as “business forums.”

However, he added: “We are clear on extortion because we define that as criminal activity… Those who come with guns should be dealt with by the police.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean MacPherson called the “construction mafia” “thugs” in an interview with BizNews.

On social media, South Africans reacted with shock to MaMkhize’s brutal confession.

DEATH WITH THE LAW

According to The citizen, MaMkhize was hit with a R37 million tax bill over her business empire.

As a result, SARS has filed a request with the court to seize 13 luxury vehicles owned by Shandi Trust and Royal AM football club, in which the reality star has a majority stake.

The publication reported that MaMkhize was also ordered to pay R12 million to SARS in her personal capacity.

In 2012, IOL reported that MaMkhize faced 119 charges of tax fraud, totaling up to R5 million, for submitting false invoices. She later blamed the omission on her accountant, Kishal Reddy, who pleaded guilty while she pleaded not guilty.

According to Mail & Guardianshe was also charged with corruption for allegedly trying to convince a witness in one of her tax fraud cases to falsify evidence.

All charges were later dropped and Shauwn walked out of court a free woman.
