Florida police confiscate enough fentanyl to kill 3 million people

Fentanyl is a scourge plaguing every state in the country under President Joe Biden.

And Florida is one of the states hardest hit by the drug epidemic.

The Citrus County, Florida Sheriff’s Office participated in a joint task force that resulted in the largest fentanyl bust in county history.

“In this one operation, enough fentanyl was taken off the streets to kill over three million people,” said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), two milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal for most people.

Police estimated the deadly drug had a street value of $735,000.

Agents from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Impact Unit, the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Tampa, DEA and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office worked together to conduct the raid.

Police raided a home in Homosassa, Florida, north of Tampa, where they found more than 13 pounds of fentanyl, 5 ounces of methamphetamine, 22 firearms and more than $10,000 in cash.

“We will never tolerate drug trafficking in Citrus County,” Prendergast warned. “Thanks to this collaborative effort with our local, state and federal partners, another illegal drug organization has been shut down. I will continue to honor the promise I made on day one as your sheriff: illegal narcotics will not be tolerated in Citrus County.”

Fentanyl hidden in other medications

Fentanyl has become the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 49.

Many people who die from overdose never intended to take this deadly drug.

“The fentanyl seized was in various forms. There were pressed kilo “bricks” with the organization’s trademark on them and thousands of individual fentanyl pills that were stamped to look like prescription opioids, such as 10mg oxycodone and ‘Percocet,’” the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media.

DEA officials are warning that counterfeit prescription drugs containing fentanyl are increasingly entering circulation.

“These counterfeit pills coincide with the DEA’s Public Safety Alert, in which they discovered that 6 out of 10 counterfeit fentanyl prescription pills now contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl. This means that anyone who purchases prescription pills from a pharmacy other than a legitimate pharmacy could unknowingly ingest a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl,” the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said.

The border crisis allowed Mexican drug cartels to flood the country with fentanyl.

Grieving mother Anne Funder gave a speech at the Republican National Convention in July, blaming Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the death of her 15-year-old son from a fentanyl overdose.

“My family and I were living in Southern California when President Biden took office and opened our borders,” Funder said. “I hold Joe Biden, Kamala Harris — the ‘Border Czar,’ what a joke — and Gavin Newsom and every Democrat who supports open borders responsible for my son’s death.”
