Mongolian law enforcement trainers participate in anti-drug trafficking training

AKIPRESS.COM – Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to organize an activity aimed at strengthening the capacity of law enforcement trainers in Southeast Asia and Mongolia, Antara news agency reports.

During the opening of the training activity in Bogor, West Java, on Monday (August 19), BNN Director of Enforcement and Pursuit Roy Hardi Siahaan explained that the event aims to provide trainers from law enforcement agencies in Southeast Asia and Mongolia with standardized skills in tackling drug trafficking.

“This training activity not only provides trainers with skills to quickly respond to emerging threats, but also aims to foster regional cooperation and support continued improvements in law enforcement capabilities,” the agency spokesperson said.

The training of trainers will take place from August 19 to 30 and is also aimed at helping 28 trainers from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia to devise strategies for managing border areas, which are considered hotbeds of drug trafficking.

Siahaan stressed that drug trafficking, which he describes as an organised, transnational crime that takes advantage of different legal systems and weak border security, poses a major threat to several countries.

He stressed the need for the Southeast Asian region to establish an agreed standard for law enforcement training activities to ensure that efforts aimed at increasing the capacity of law enforcement officers can significantly enhance the effectiveness of counter-drug trafficking operations.
