LAHORE: The main culprit behind the rocket attack by gangs in Machka area of ​​Rahim Yar Khan district that killed 12 policemen has been killed, police said on Friday.

According to a police statement on Friday, the main culprit behind the attack was killed in a night-time operation.

“The operation will continue until the perpetrators are eliminated,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to twelve on Friday, police said.

Organized criminal gangs have been active in the riverine areas of the southern provinces of Sindh and Punjab for decades, often making money through kidnapping and ransom.

According to a statement by the Punjab Police, two police vans were returning from their weekly mission in the riverine district of Machaka in Rahim Yar Khan when one of the vans broke down.

“The bandits attacked the vehicles with rocket launchers after one of the vehicles in the convoy broke down,” a statement from the Inspector General’s office in Punjab said.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday directed the Punjab Home Minister to immediately launch an operation in the Katcha areas, according to a message on X by her PML-N party.

“It has ordered that a swift and effective response be made to the bandits, with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab leading the operation,” the PML-N said.
