  • According to Dr Reena Das, it is possible that multiple perpetrators were involved in the rape and murder of the trainee doctor.
  • The undercover operation further revealed the involvement of Debashish Som, who reportedly served as an advisor to the former director, Dr Sandip Ghosh. Describing Som as someone with considerable influence, Dr Reena Das stated, “Debashish is the demonstrator in my department, forensic medicine. He has the power and that is why he has become the advisor to Dr Sandip Ghosh. Sandip Ghosh follows whatever Debashish tells him to do.”
  • Dr Reena Das continued to express her concerns and said, “Sandip Ghosh created a syndicate and students and teachers were disobeyed, threatened and put under constant pressure. He maintained a considerable level of mental stress on everyone from students to the head of the departments.”

  • ABP News’ undercover operation also revealed malpractice in the handling of corpses brought to the RG Kar Medical College for autopsy.

The major revelation came from Somnath Das, a former forensic expert at RG Kar Medical College, who was transferred from RG Kar. He said he was the first to file a written complaint against Dr Sandip Ghosh, alleging misconduct. He also revealed that corpses meant for autopsy were being used for unauthorized workshops. “The corpses that were brought here for autopsy were being used for workshops. For example, a workshop on ENT was once held there, which created a huge uproar in the medical college. Despite all this, the government did not take any action against him,” he noted.

“He thought he was the boss, he behaved like a mafia,” Somnath said.

  • Dr Akhtar Ali, previously deputy principal of RG Kar Medical College and now posted in Murshidabad, alleged that Dr Sandip Ghosh was backed by powerful political figures. “Dr Sandip has both money and power. The Chief Minister is promoting him,” Dr Ali alleged.
  • A medical student at RG Kar Medical College accused the management of unleashing “academic terror”. The student alleged: “This was one-sided academic terror, if there is a director, he has his lobby. The TMC student unit is there, their core members were there… These people built a hierarchy, they controlled every new batch that came, they had a process to control them that they had full training on how to do hazing, how to do induction.”
