Game Science BANS Politics and Feminism in ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Coverage

Science draws the line: ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ bans politics and feminism in gaming reporting.

Game Science, the developer behind the highly anticipated ‘Black Myth: Wukong’has issued a “modern” guideline for content creators, explicitly prohibiting the inclusion of political messages and what it calls “feminist propaganda” in their game-related content.

This policy was highlighted by legal analyst Andrew Esquire, known online as The Legal Mindset, who shared a screenshot of the terms of the content agreement provided to creators who are given access to the game:

The provisions are clear: creators are prohibited from using offensive language or humor, directly attacking other influencers or players, and participating in discussions that could provoke negative discourse. It includes a ban on topics such as politics, violence, nudity, and especially… any content that could be perceived as feminist propaganda.

The agreement also extends to avoiding discussions of sensitive topics like COVID-19 or any discourse regarding Chinese gaming industry policies. While this sounds great on the surface and is a giant FU to the nose-ring mafia ‘journos’, part of me would rather have no stipulations and just let the garbage clean up after itself. People are waking up. We want to see what they’re really thinking… But at the same time – I get it. The development comes amid accusations from several media outlets, including IGN and The Guardian, who have criticized the cultural and professional conduct at Game Science.

Despite these Nose Ring Mafia driven accusations, Game Science has gone the professional route and chosen not to directly address the claims, instead focusing on their upcoming game releases and maintaining a strict policy around content creation. This stance underscores a much broader intention to control the narrative around their games, emphasizing a gameplay-first approach without any external socio-political discussions. What a wild approach. Focusing on the actual game they’re making… Imagine my shock that the Nose Ring Mafia have their panties in a bunch.

Black Myth: Wukong has still received a lot of attention despite this, topping Steam wishlists and getting a lot of positive press from influencers. It shows a strong continued interest from the gaming community as it approaches release. The policies set by Game Science may open up debates about freedom of speech versus the desire for non-politicized entertainment spaces… But ultimately, that’s what we’re dealing with with an industry of ‘professionals’ in complete chaos.
