Georgia officer shot during search dies, sheriff’s office says

A Georgia sheriff’s deputy died Friday from injuries he sustained while executing an arrest warrant, police said.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Detective Taylor Bristow was shot Tuesday while assisting with an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, according to a Facebook post from the department.

Officers were attempting to execute a warrant related to a child sexual exploitation investigation when Christopher Bly, 40, shot Bristow and himself, the department said. Bly was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a GBI press release, investigators seized multiple electronic devices at the crime scene that contained child sexual abuse material.

Bristow, 30, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he died.

Carroll County is located approximately 49 miles (79 kilometers) west of Atlanta, near the Alabama border.

“He served our community with unwavering passion and dedicated his life to protecting the citizens of Carroll County. We are heartbroken and speechless,” the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post Friday.
