Five suspected members of the ‘construction mafia’ appear in court for the first time in KZN

DURBAN – Five suspected members of the so-called construction mafia are expected to appear in court in KwaZulu-Natal for the first time on Monday.

The group was arrested on Sunday.

For years, construction unions have hijacked government projects and demanded protection fees.

Police spokesman Robert Netshiunda said: “The five suspects, aged between 28 and 44, will appear before Camperdown Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 August 2024.”
