DLSA Kupwara organizes awareness program on NALSA

Kupwara, August 27: In line with its 2024 calendar of activities, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara, under the aegis of NALSA and JK Legal Services Authority, today organised an awareness programme on NALSA (Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) Scheme 2015 at Government Degree College (Women) Kupwara.

The programme, which was held under the supervision of District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara Chairperson Shazia Tabasum and under the direct guidance of DLSA Kupwara Secretary Manzoor Ahmad Khan, aimed at creating awareness among participants and students regarding immoral human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

The programme was attended by Principal Government Degree College (Women) Kupwara, Assistant Professors, Assistant LADC, DLSA Kupwara, staff members, students and paralegal volunteers.

Speaking on the occasion, the Resource Person, Tawseef Raja (Assistant LADC, DLSA Kupwara) highlighted the objectives of the programme. He also emphasised on prevention, rescue, free legal representation, rehabilitation and compensation of the victims of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. He also highlighted the provisions of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, POCSO Act, Victim Compensation Scheme and the punishments/penalties provided therein for the offenders.

Director GDC Kupwara, Farooq Faizan, appreciated the role of the legal services authority in creating awareness around various socio-legal issues.

Dr. Shaziya Lone (Assistant Professor) thanked the officials of DLSA Kupwara for conducting programs on various legal issues. Students and participants lauded the efforts of Legal Services Authorities for organizing various awareness programs in educational institutions of the district.
