North Carolina man convicted of child sex crimes he committed in 2021, sheriff says

STANLY COUNTY, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Stanly County man has been convicted of child sex crimes he committed three years ago, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office said.

On August 26, 2024, a jury found George Kevin Helms guilty of two counts of indecent assault on a child, two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and two counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor.


In April 2021, officers began investigating a sexual assault. Helms was charged with multiple sex offenses on October 15, 2021.

Nearly three years later, on August 20, 2024, the Stanley County Prosecutor’s Office began presenting the case to a jury.

Helms was sentenced to two terms of 4 years and 10 months to 8 years and 7 months, to be served consecutively, officials said.
