Juicy J has entered a new musical scene with his jazz album, Ravenite Social ClubThe 49-year-old rapper also paid tribute to fellow Three-6-Mafia member, the late Gangsta Boo, on the album.

On the song “To You,” which also got a music video, the Memphis legend collaborated with Robert Glasper and Emi Seacrest. “Last time I saw you, you was high, it got bad/ You might’ve even made a joke, but I couldn’t laugh/ Didn’t want to talk about it, ’cause we’re all grown up/ Had a feeling you’d finally come home,” he rapped about Boo.

Gangsta Boo died of an accidental overdose in January 2023. During a performance at Sway’s UniverseJuicy J admitted he felt like her drug use would ultimately lead to her downfall. “I don’t know where it came from, but I just looked at her like… because I knew she’d been doing it for a long time, so I was like, ‘Damn, man. Are you still doing cocaine?'” he said. “But I hadn’t seen Boo in a long time and so, you know, she’s a grown woman, so I tried to stay out of her business… I wish I could’ve said something. I was like, ‘F**k.'” Watch the music video for “To You” below.

Ravenite Social Club marks Juicy J’s third album of 2024 and his first foray into the jazz genre. He first released Mental Vibration 2 in May 2024, featuring Project Pat, Sukihana and Xavier Wulf. Less than two months later, the “Stay Fly” rapper released Memphis Zoo with contributions by Pat and Wulf.

Last year, J expressed concern about hip-hop’s declining sales, as it took six months for a No. 1 album from the genre to appear on Billboard. “I know a lot of people don’t want to hear this, but I’m realistic,” he said in a video. “Rap music is down 40%. Just look at the charts. Just look at the math. I don’t make the rules. What are we, as rappers, producers, composers, going to do about this shit? Because it’s down 40% this year. Just look at the charts. Do your research. This is a fact.”

The producer chose to be solution-oriented and demanded that everyone in the hip-hop world come together. “Let’s have a conversation,” he said. “We gotta figure some shit out. We gotta sit down and talk. Let’s have a meeting, let’s meet somewhere and have a big-a** f**king meeting.”
