Haitian and Kenyan police try to drive gangs out of a rough part of Haiti’s capital

Associated Press

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille says Haitian troops working with police sent from Kenya have launched a joint operation to clear criminal gangs from one of the toughest neighborhoods in Haiti’s capital. Conille spoke Wednesday at a Port-au-Prince hospital, where three Haitian police officers were recovering from wounds they suffered Tuesday in a shooting during the joint operation in the impoverished, gang-controlled Bel Air neighborhood. Conille did not provide further details about the operation, but he called on Haitians to cooperate with police and share information to help reduce crime.
