Samantha Ruth Prabhu praises WCC after Hema Commission findings

Samantha Ruth Prabhu on the Hema Commission Report

Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has thrown her support behind the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) following the explosive findings of the Hema Commission report.

The report, released on August 19, reveals widespread discrimination, exploitation and sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, sparking outrage.

Samantha took to her Instagram stories on Wednesday, August 28, to praise the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) for their unwavering advocacy for a safer, fairer industry. “I have been following the incredible work of the WCC in Kerala for years. Their journey has been far from easy, and with the serious implications of the Hema Committee report now coming to the fore, we owe them our gratitude,” she wrote.

The Hema Commission, set up in 2017 following a petition from the WCC, was tasked with investigating sexual harassment and gender inequality in the Malayalam film industry.

Although the report was submitted to the Kerala government in 2019, it was only recently made public with minimal redactions. It reveals a disturbing industry culture, including the influence of a powerful group and the expectation of sexual favours as an entry point.
