Barry Keoghan to Join ‘Peaky Blinders’ Film — World of Reel

Barry Keoghan has just had a couple of high-profile roles in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ and last year’s ‘Saltburn’, but now he’s jumped on board Netflix and Steven Knight’s film “Peaky Blinders.”

Keoghan joins an all-star cast that already includes Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, and Rebecca Ferguson as his co-star (via TermFerguson has appeared in films including “Dune”, “Dune: Part II”, “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” and “Doctor Sleep”.

Like Ferguson, details about Keoghan’s role are being kept under wraps. Neither was part of the series, which tells me that Knight and director Tom Harper may have something else brewing with their two-hour film version of the show. Knight had previously told Deadline that the story would be set during World War II.

Set in 1919, in the aftermath of WWI, Knight’s series tackled criminal gangs struggling to survive in a country rocked by economic turmoil. The show focused on one of the most powerful gangs of the time, the Peaky Blinders, led by returning war hero Thomas Shelby and his family.

Since its premiere in 2013, the show’s fan base has grown slowly but steadily over its six-year run, with many fans discovering the show on Netflix. Knight has noted that the appeal of making a film of the series lay in the desire to get “Peaky Blinders” fans together in a theater to watch it.

The film is scheduled to begin filming in September, with a target release on Netflix in 2025.
