The Archies: Zoya Akhtar admits she could have done THIS differently in Suhana Khan, starring Khushi Kapoor; ‘There are certain things…’

Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut The Archies released in December last year. The film introduced Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Vedang Raina and Agastya Nanda to the industry. Despite the huge anticipation, some netizens expressed disappointment over the debutantes’ performances. Recently, the filmmaker for the first time revealed things she would have done differently in the film.

During a recent chat with Indian Express for their latest edition of Expresso, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and his daughter Zoya Akhtar were in conversation. During the quick round, the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director was asked if she thinks she would have done anything differently in The Archies.

In her response, she was quick to say, “I think there are certain things with the script that I could have done differently, and certain things with the marketing.” When asked further what she could have done with the script, Zoya laughed and said, “No, I don’t want to say that.”

Before the film’s release last year, there was a debate online about the filmmaker’s choice of star kids. In response, during a chat with Film Companion, Zoya said that she “didn’t feel any pressure to cast anyone.” She noted that she could have cast anyone in the film, but she chose the ones she felt would suit the film the best.

The filmmaker then pointed out that there were seven children on the poster; however, only three of them (Suhana Khan, Agastya and Khushi) were given attention. “You stole their moment, and it’s heartbreaking to see. Who are you talking to? Us? We put seven children there. You just ignored four. And you took away their moment. I’m sorry. Your problem,” she said.

On the work front, Zoya is currently enjoying the release of the docuseries Angry Young Men, which she is helming alongside her brother Farhan Akhtar and Salman Khan under Tiger Baby, Excel Entertainment and Salman Khan Films. The series is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and celebrates the legacy of the legendary writing duo Salim-Javed.

Zoya had earlier confirmed in a conversation with the aforementioned portal that she is working on the script of a crime and mafia film.
