Kamala Harris and Tim Walz sat in their first interview for the 2024 Democratic candidates on Thursday and only two words came to mind:

Unfair.

Trainwreck-like.

TOP 5 MOMENTS FROM KAMALA HARRIS’ FIRST INTERVIEW AS DEMOCRAT NOMINEE: ‘I WILL NOT BAN FRACKING’

The second word may not be an existing word, but it is appropriate.

The edited and condensed interview, recorded earlier in the day on Thursday, was also an example of missed opportunities for CNN anchor Dana Bash.

Bash will admit to gently challenging Harris on her Etch-a-Sketch positions on the border and domestic energy, but the Democratic candidate’s responses were on the level of Baghdad Bob lies.

About fracking:

“I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020, that I would not ban fracking. As vice president,” she said, “I did not ban fracking. As president, I will not ban fracking.”

There is zero evidence that this claim is true. Zero. But Bash let it go anyway.

At the border the conversation also became laughable:

“My values are about what we need to do to secure our border. That value hasn’t changed,” Harris said. “I spent two terms as Attorney General of California prosecuting transnational criminal organizations, violations of U.S. transit laws, the illegal movement of weapons, drugs, and warnings across our border about my values.”

HARRIS DEFENDS POLICY FLIP-FLOPS IN EXAMPLE OF FIRST INTERVIEW SINCE EMERGING TICKET

So here we have the vice president going back to before she was vice president and senator and talking about how tough she was on the border.

What an absolute joke and an insult to the intelligence of the American voters.

This is what CNN’s Dana Bash should have asked:

Question 1: You are in favor of taxing unrealized gains on capital gains. Some critics say this will cause the stock market to crash. Explain why they are wrong.

Question 2: You have expressed your support for sanctuary cities. Why do you think they work?

Question 3: You support free health care for those who enter the country illegally. How is that paid for and why should those who are here illegally get the same benefits as those who are in the country legally?

What an absolute joke and an insult to the intelligence of the American voters.

Question 4: You support cashless bail laws at a time when crime is driving citizens away from cities like New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, and San Francisco. Why do you think cashless bail laws are best for society?

Question 5: You support biological males competing against biological females in sports. Why do you think that is fair, given the clear advantage that poses a threat to female athletes?

Bonus question: Can men get pregnant?

That’s clear: there were dozens of questions that could have been asked, but you get the point. Dana Bash and CNN dropped the ball here.

And know this: It’s a safe bet that Vice President Kamala Harris will not give another interview before the September 10 debate.

We’re now heading into a long weekend. Kamala Harris took nearly SIX WEEKS to do a single interview. And based on her inconsistent performance, it’s almost certain we won’t see much of her in any capacity before the debate, just as we didn’t see President Joe Biden for days as he prepared for the June 27 debate in Atlanta.

Of course, that didn’t matter, because Biden and Harris have the same problem: they both turn into human Chernobyls when their teleprompters and voiceovers are taken away from them.

Millions will watch clips from Thursday’s interview from now through the weekend. How it will end is unclear, but it’s a good bet it will be a net negative rather than a net positive.

Former President Donald Trump has a better chance of winning in November than Harris, according to Nate Silver’s 538 Forecast Thursday afternoon.

The honeymoon is over, just as it was for Harris four years ago, when America got to know her through interviews and debates that ended badly.

In 2024, we may see a sequel to that film, which didn’t end well for her when the 2020 presidential candidate withdrew before she even got to 2020.
