Expedition convoy stirs patriotism | New Sarawak Tribune

MUST: The Ministry of Information (JAPEN) has made a great impact by organizing the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Expedition (KMJG) convoy, which has helped the community better understand and embrace the essence of independence.

Shafrie Saili, deputy resident of Mukah, stressed the importance of such initiatives to boost patriotism and increase public awareness.

“In times of conflict, our soldiers guard our flag with the utmost awe, because its fall would be a blow to our morale,” he noted.

Under the theme “Madani Malaysia: Free Soul”, he expressed the hope that students would internalize this concept and defend independence by proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang.

These statements were made yesterday during the opening of the KMJG program at SMK Three Rivers.

Shafrie also advised students to use social media constructively, given its pervasive influence. He stressed the need for caution in online interactions to avoid involvement in cyberbullying.

Helmy Hamid, Managing Director of JAPEN Sarawak, highlighted the recent introduction by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) of the Application Service Provision Class License under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which will come into effect on 1 January 2025.

This measure is intended to curb the increasing cases of cybercrime such as online fraud, cyberbullying and sexual exploitation of children. Helmy urged parents to closely monitor their children’s online activities and restrict access to social media for children under 13.

Shafrie completes the ‘flagging’ of the convoy at SMK Three Rivers.

He also stressed the importance of monitoring and regulating children’s internet use to protect them from potential risks.

Helmy, who leads the KMJG 2024 convoy, stressed that the program aims to instill a deep sense of patriotism in the region.

The event was attended by SMK Three Rivers Principal Donny Dahlan, Acting District Officer Peleadzman Ahip and JAPEN Officer Mukah Syahrulizan Madian.
