Aurora Mayor and DHS Admit Venezuelan Gang Presence

Perhaps Colorado Governor Jared Polis should take a look at the city of Aurora and see what the Department of Homeland Security sees. Aurora, a Denver suburb, has a Venezuelan gang problem and residents are right to be concerned.

It all started with local reports of armed gang members breaking into Aurora apartments last Wednesday.

The video shows the group entering an apartment building with multiple weapons and then going through a door. The scene took place at The Edge at Lowry Apartments, which has become a reported crime hotspot in that city.

The video shows men walking up a flight of stairs with weapons. They can be heard speaking in Spanish.

All the people seem to have guns and pistols with them, except for one of the men who can be seen talking on a cell phone. They all gather around a door and go inside.

Another video clip shows what appear to be two men forcing open a door, but it’s unclear what or who they were looking for.

The video was shot in the building where Cindy and Edward Romero lived until Wednesday, when FOX31 caught up with them as they packed up and moved.

“It’s a nightmare and I can’t wait to get out of here,” said former resident Cindy Romero.

FOX31 showed the video to Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky, who helped the couple move and find a new place to live on Wednesday.

“The city’s nonprofits are lining up to help the migrants who have come here, but no one is helping the Americans who are stuck in these apartment complexes,” Jurinsky said.

Jurinsky said the complex was raided by a Venezuelan gang.

“These are not just Americans. Other Venezuelans are being extorted by this gang,” Jurinsky said.

Well, Governor Polis’ office dismissed the councilwoman’s concerns, calling it a “feature” of her “imagination” — even with the video and testimonies from those who tried to move out of the apartment complex.

Polis’ press office made the sarcastic comment Wednesday night in response to Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky, who told The Post that the gang’s takeovers are linked to his policies.

“The governor has already informed the mayor that the state stands ready to support local law enforcement with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed,” Shelby Wieman, a spokesperson for the Democratic governor, told The Post.

“But according to police intelligence, this alleged invasion was largely a product of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.”

But even Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman confirmed that this was organized gang activity. Not that the evidence mattered to the governor’s spokesman.

Denver — a sanctuary city just west of Aurora — has received more migrants per capita than any other city in the country, most of them from Venezuela. More than 40,000 migrants have arrived since December 2022.

The Post asked Polis’ office if he plans to retract his statement given the mounting evidence of the Tren de Aragua takeover. Wieman responded that the governor “really hopes that the city council members in charge will stop destroying their own city, when they should be keeping it safe.”

“Over the past month, Governor Polis has been in regular contact with the City of Aurora and the Aurora Police Department and has offered all state resources to support their efforts if requested,” she said, adding that they expect violent crime to continue to decline.

And what is this gang anyway?

For years, (Tren de Aragua), from the Aragua region of Venezuela, has sent its members across the U.S.-Mexico border and has expanded recruitment within the U.S. among immigrant communities, primarily in New York, Denver, and Chicago.

The gang was recently designated a transnational criminal organization by the Biden administration.

OH, THEN IT’S NOT A BIG PROBLEM, RIGHT, GOVERNOR POLIS?

BREAKING: Mayor of Aurora, Colorado suggests federal government may have funded Venezuelan gangs in Aurora, Colorado.

Mayor Mike Coffman said *several* apartment buildings have been taken over by the armed gangs.

Coffman said the gangs are now collecting rent after “working the property management out.”

“We are victims of failed policies at the southern border.”

Holy shit.

How can anyone watch the above video and not realize that something has gone terribly wrong with our immigration policy? So much for addressing the “root causes” of migration, right, Border Czar Kamala Harris?

Mayor Mike Coffman posted on Facebook Friday that he is seeking an emergency court order to help Aurora deal with the situation.

Aurora asks emergency court to evict apartments

The Aurora City Attorney’s Office is preparing court documents seeking an emergency order to vacate apartment buildings where Venezuelan gangs operate, declaring the properties a “criminal nuisance.”

This requires a municipal judge to issue an order with the aim of getting the properties back under the management of the owners.

In the meantime, the law enforcement unit created to arrest Venezuelan gang members in these buildings will continue its work.

The problems associated with Venezuelan gang activity are limited to properties that are all owned by someone from outside the state. The problems with code violations and criminal activity existed before the migrant crisis.

I believe it is best to close these buildings and ensure this never happens again.

You know who else is now confirming that this is Venezuelan gang activity? The Department of Homeland Security.

The people seen in the video entering apartments in an Aurora complex with weapons are members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, sources with the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to NewsNation.

Funny, both Governor Polis’ personal X account and his official account are, as of this posting, oddly silent on this DHS confirmation. You know who isn’t silent? Donald Trump.

The full message reads:

JUST IN: Donald Trump vows to deport Venezuelan gang members who have taken over apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado.

“We’re going to get them out of here as quickly as possible.”

Officials in Aurora are investigating a Venezuelan gang, the Tren de Aragua gang, accused of taking over apartment complexes in Aurora.

The gang is said to be involved in human smuggling, violence, money laundering and illegal drug trafficking throughout the US, including at the Nome Street apartment complex in Aurora.

The violent gang is accused of stealing the property managers’ properties and is reportedly even charging rent.

While it is important for Trump to call attention to this problem, it will not solve the problem now, or protect the people being terrorized by these gang members in Aurora. This is the end result of proclaiming that immigrants were welcome in Denver, and now the city of Aurora has a gang problem by osmosis. Will Governor Polis step in NOW to offer help restoring order to these apartment buildings, and help the mayor get the emergency injunction? Will he help relocate the people terrorized by Tren de Aragua? Or will he just have his office say that this is all someone’s wild imagination running wild again? I don’t think he will say anything – except maybe to complain that Donald Trump has noticed the problem.
