Actor Samantha urges Telangana government to publish report on sexual harassment

Actress Samantha shared a post on Voice of Women on August 30, welcoming the Hema Commission report and urging the Telangana government to publish the report on sexual harassment in the Telugu film industry.

The post that Samantha shared on her Instagram story read, “We, the women of the Telugu film industry, welcome the Hema Commission report and applaud the sustained efforts of the WCC (Women in Cinema Collective) in Kerala, which has paved the way to this moment.”

“Following the WCC, The Voice of Women, a support group for women in TFI, was founded in 2019,” Samantha said in her post.

She also urged for similar action from the Telangana government and publication of the report on sexual harassment. “We hereby urge the Telangana government to publish the submitted report of the sub-committee on sexual harassment, which may help in formulating government and industry policies, to create a safe working environment for women in the TFI (sic),” the message concluded.

The Hema Commission report, which has accused women of sexual exploitation and harassment in the Malayalam film industry, has sparked outrage. Several celebrities have spoken openly about the harassment and exploitation they have faced.

Following the report, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and the governing body under him resigned from their positions in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Earlier, Bengali actor Ritabhari Chakraborty also urged the West Bengal government to work towards setting up an entity similar to the Hema Committee. in the Bangladeshi film industry. She also demanded a full investigation into sexual harassment cases in the Bangladeshi film industry.
